Editorial: Is Nigerian Music Losing Value ?

Dear MHB Readers.
Though the financing wasn’t as good as it is today, the content and acceptance was massive.
After a few years of continued success, the decline started with repeated story lines and in no time, the movies became extremely boring.
Today our music industry is the toast of Africa. Lagos has become the Mecca of entertainment in Africa and superstars keep springing up daily. There was a radical musical revolution from the late 90’s that led to the birth of stars like 2face Idibia, D’banj, P-square and many other greats in the early 2000’s.

The music industry has done extremely well in the past decade gaining both local and international recognition and acceptance. Our artistes are wealthier and more popular today than they were in 2004, but the content and quality of the songs keep declining.
Many will argue that Nigerian music artistes are lazy and don’t do enough work to improve their music. What could possibly be the problem or could our music be heading the way of the conventional Nollywood?
